• Pass two exams: Business and Finance, and the Trade.
• Be over 18 years of age.
• Have at least 4 years of experience in the area where you wish to obtain the license. One of the experience years must be in a supervisory role. You do not have to have the necessary experience before you take the exam. After passing the state exam you have up to 4 years to gain the necessary experience to become a licensed Contractor.
• Have good moral character, this means not having outstanding debts with society.

A Drywall Contractor is a contractor qualified and certified to install gypsum drywall products to studs, joists and suspended ceiling channels and to fabricate and install metal accessories and all necessary trim in connection therewith including metal studs, runners, hangers, channels, drywall metal suspension accessories and prefabricated ceiling materials.

Licensing Requirements

Como obtener  una Licencia de Drywall Specialty Contractor

Un Contratista Especializado de Drywall (Drywall Specialty Contractor – Gypsum Contractor) es un trabajador especializado, calificado y certificado para instalar productos de paneles de yeso a montantes , vigas y canales de techos suspendidos y para fabricar e instalar accesorios de metal y todo el ajuste necesario en relación con el mismo incluyendo los postes metálicos, corredores, perchas, canales, accesorios de suspensión de paneles de yeso de metal y materiales prefabricados en el techo con relación al drywall.

Requisitos

• Tener al menos 4 años de experiencia, de los cuales 1 año debe ser en actividades supervisoras como la de Capataz (Foreman). Sin embargo hasta tres años de la experiencia pueden ser sustituidos con estudios superiores de Universidad (College).
• Tener buen carácter moral, esto significa no tener deudas pendientes con la sociedad.
• Ser mayor de 18 años de edad.
• Demostrar responsabilidad financiera.
• Aprobar dos tipos de exámenes: Negocios y Finanzas y el Técnico.

No tienes que tener la experiencia necesaria antes de tomar el examen, ya que el Estado te da hasta 4 años después de pasar el examen para ganar esa experiencia.

How To Get A Painting Contractor License in Miami-Dade County

A Painting Contractor is qualified and certified to

• clean, size and do minor caulking in preparation for painting,
• and to apply waterproofing, paint and related liquid or viscous products thereon by brush, rollers or spray method.
• This category shall include roof cleaning and painting.

Experience requirement as a prerequisite to issuance shall be one (1) year.

The State of Florida does not offer a license specifically for Paint Contractors, however Miami-Dade County requires the Painters to be licensed by the Construction Trades Qualifying Board. The holder of a license must submit proof showing the completion of 16 hours of approved continuing education from a Miami-Dade County approved course sponsor when renewing your license.

 

Class B Air-Conditioning Contractor-HVAC

A “Class B Air-Conditioning Contractor” means a contractor whose services are limited to 25 tons of cooling and 500,000 BTU of heating in any one system in the execution of contracts requiring the experience, knowledge, and skill to install, maintain, repair, fabricate, alter, extend, or design central air-conditioning, refrigeration, heating, and ventilating systems, including duct work in connection with a complete system. A “class B air-conditioning contractor” shall not perform any work such as liquefied petroleum or natural gas fuel lines within buildings, potable water lines or connections, sanitary sewer lines, swimming pool piping and filters, or electrical power wiring. 

  • Anyone seeking to become an Air Conditioning Contractor in Florida is required to sit for two exams, business and finance and the technical.
  • Applicants must have four years of experience  within the scope of the license. One of the experience years must be in a supervisory role.
  • Be older than 18 years of age.
  • Have good moral character, this means not having outstanding debts with society.
  • Have a Social Security Number.
  • Demonstrate financial responsibility.

 

GENERAL CONTRACTOR IN FLORIDA

A “General Contractor” means a contractor whose services are unlimited as to the type of work which he or she may do. A General contractor is responsible for the complete execution of the construction work. Its range is unlimited in terms of capacity and complexity of the projects that build. The general
contractor can build, alter, and renew any building and structure. This license enables to direct and take responsibility in building, qualify a company and participate as a partner in the company. One of the most important benefits of this license is that it allows to hire any specialising in different areas of construction. A general contractor can work in any county or city of the State of Florida without the need to obtain a local licence.

To become a State Certified Contractor in Florida, you must:

  • Be older than 18 years of age.
  • Have at least 4 years of experience in the area where you wish to obtain the license, of which 1 year you must be in supervisory activities such as Foreman. It is important to know that at least one year of experience should be in buildings of four or more stories in height. Up to three years of experience can be replaced with a higher education title. College or University titles are valid for experience validations.
  • Have good moral character, this means not having outstanding debts with society.
  • Demonstrate financial responsibility.
  • Have a Social Security number.
  • Approve two types of examination: A business and finance examination, and 2 technical examinations.

Florida Irrigation Contractor License

An “Irrigation Specialty Contractor” is a contractor whose contracting business consists of the execution of contracts requiring the experience, financial means, knowledge, and skill to install, maintain, repair, alter, extend, manage, monitor, audit, or, if not prohibited by law, design irrigation systems. An irrigation specialty contractor may install, maintain, repair, alter, extend, manage, monitor, audit, or, if not prohibited by law, design irrigation systems, including any excavation work incidental thereto.

An irrigation system includes all: piping; fittings; sprinklers; drip irrigation products; valves; irrigation controllers; control wiring; rain sensors; water pumps; water conservation devices; water harvesting systems; irrigation main lines downstream of a utility potable water meter or utility alternative water supply distribution line and dedicated backflow prevention device; and associated components installed for the delivery and application of water for the purpose of irrigation. Nothing in this rule shall be deemed to restrict or limit in any manner the scope of work authorized by law of other contractor classifications.
